The Ultrasound Early Pregnancy (TVS) is used to examine developing fetus and female reproductive organs including uterus, fallopian tubes, ovaries, cervix, and vagina during the early preganacy. Transvaginal means through the vagina by inserting an ultrasound probe about two or three inches into your vaginal canal.

This test is generally recommended for early pregnancy confirmation by checking fetal heart beat and exact due date calculation. It can also be done for checking the cervix and placenta for possible miscarriage, problems such as abnormal vaginal bleeding, ectopic pregnancy and pelvic pain.

A transvaginal ultrasound is done with your bladder empty or partly filled. There are no known harmful effects of transvaginal ultrasound fetus as only the sound waves are used in this procedure.
