Neuromyelitis optica (NMO) is a central nervous system disorder that primarily affects the eye nerves (optic neuritis) and the spinal cord (myelitis). It is an autoimmune disease. NMO with MOG antibody profile test is done to detect NMO and MOG antibodies which can help diagnose the underlying condition and differentiate it from multiple sclerosis (another autoimmune disease that may have similar symptoms yet different disease progression).
