Islet Cell Antibody - 512

The Islet Cell Antibody - 512 test is a blood test that detects antibodies directed against insulin-producing cells (beta cells) of the pancreas. These antibodies indicate an autoimmune response in which the immune system mistakenly targets pancreatic islet cells. The test is primarily used to support the evaluation of autoimmune diabetes, especially Type 1 diabetes, and to help distinguish it from Type 2 diabetes or other forms of diabetes.

ICA testing is useful in individuals with unexplained hyperglycemia, atypical diabetes presentation, or a family history of autoimmune disorders. It may also be used to assess the risk of developing Type 1 diabetes in at-risk individuals. Results are interpreted alongside clinical findings, blood glucose levels, and other diabetes-related autoantibody tests for accurate assessment.
