IGF Binding Protein-3

Insulin-like growth factor binding protein 3 (IGFBP-3) is the transporter of Insulin like growth factor-1 (IGF-1). The level of IGFBP-3 & IGF-1 in the blood is controlled by pituitary hormone & hence can be used to detect pituitary gland diorders.Pituitary gland secretes growth hormone hence symptoms such as such as short stature or excessive growth (gigantism) may warrant an IGFBP-3 test may require IGFBP3 test. The test is also used to check progress of treatment of growth hormone disorders.
