CMV (Cytomegalovirus) DNA Quantitative (Viral Load)

The CMV (Cytomegalovirus) DNA Quantitative (Viral Load) test helps detect the Cytomegalovirus load (amount of virus) in the blood to assess the severity of the infection and response to antiviral therapy. CMV is a common virus that usually causes mild or no symptoms in healthy individuals, but it can be risky for individuals with weak immune systems and can be a concern to pregnant women who can pass the virus to babies leading to congenital defects. It may be recommended if you exhibit symptoms such as prolonged high fever, fatigue, loss of appetite, muscle and joint pain, headache, sore throat, or enlarged liver or spleen. It is also done for early detection of CMV reactivation, in patients who have recently undergone transplants, or for pregnant women and newborns who are symptomatic and have screened positive for CMV IgM. It is particularly important for individuals at high risk of CMV-related complications. Monitoring the viral load helps prevent severe health issues and allows doctors to adjust treatment as necessary.
