Understanding Anti-HBcAg Total
What is Anti-HBcAg Total?
The Anti-HBcAg Total (Anti-Hepatitis B core Antigen) is a test used to diagnose recent or past hepatitis B infections. Hepatitis B antibodies appear with the development of symptoms of hepatitis, such as sudden nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, dark urine, joint pain, and low-grade fever. The Anti-HBcAg total test results are studied along with other tests to gauge the recovery of an earlier hepatitis B virus. This test also helps differentiate between acute and chronic hepatitis infections.
This test is prescribed for people who are at a higher risk of contracting hepatitis infection, for pregnant women, and for people who are HIV positive. A positive test result means the person may have been infected with the hepatitis B virus in the past.
