It blocks the release of certain chemical messengers in the brain that cause pain and fever. Phenylephrine is a decongestant which narrows the small blood vessels providing relief from congestion or stuffiness in the nose. Sodium Citrate is a mucolytic which thins and loosens mucus (phlegm), making it easier to cough out. It must also be avoided if the patient is currently taking medicines called monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs).
Zedex Cold Syrup is usually prescribed for children between 2 and 12 years old, but the dose depends on age and body weight. It should not be given to children below 2 years unless advised by a doctor. Always follow the pediatrician’s dosage instructions carefully to prevent overdose.
