It contains a diuretic (water pill) and will make you urinate more so, it is best to avoid taking this medicine within four hours of going to bed. Use this medicine regularly to get the most benefit from it even if you feel well. High blood pressure does not usually have symptoms and if you stop taking it your risk of heart attack or stroke may increase.
The most common side effect is dizziness. Other side effects include feeling tired, nausea, diarrhea, headache, and decreased blood pressure. Frequent urination is not a side effect of this medicine. It is the purpose of hydrochlorothiazide and helps control your blood pressure. You may experience other possible side effects, but most are rare. Hydrochlorothiazide may occasionally lead to an increase in pressure in your eye and lead to permanent eye damage if not treated. Make sure you read the leaflet that comes with your medicines and tell your doctor if you are bothered by side effects or they do not go away. It may be possible to adjust your dose or try a different medicine.
Do not use potassium supplements or salt substitutes unless your doctor has told you to. This medicine is not recommended during pregnancy or while breastfeeding and you should ask your doctor before taking it if you have kidney or liver disease, heart trouble or diabetes. Uses of Valzaar-H Tablet
Benefits of Valzaar-H Tablet
Hypertension (high blood pressure)
Valzaar-H Tablet is a combination of two medicines namely Valsartan and Hydrochlorothiazide. It is generally used when one medicine alone is not controlling your blood pressure effectively. Valsartan works by relaxing and widening your blood vessels so your blood can flow more easily. This will lower your blood pressure. Hydrochlorothiazide is known as a diuretic (water pill) which increases urine output thereby lowering blood pressure. If your blood pressure is controlled you are less at risk of having a heart attack, stroke, or kidney problems. The medicine must be taken regularly as prescribed to be effective. You do not usually feel any direct benefit from taking this medicine, but it works in the long term to keep you well.

Frequently asked questions
A substantial decrease in blood pressure can be experienced within 2 weeks of starting Valzaar-H Tablet. However, the medicine may take up to 4 weeks to show its complete effects. Talk to your doctor in case you have any concerns regarding Valzaar-H Tablet, but do not stop taking it without consulting the doctor.
There are many blood pressure-lowering medicines which can be considered safe. The doctor will advise the exact use of these medicines, keeping various factors such as age, gender, other coexisting diseases, etc. into consideration. Also, the effect of the medicine and response of the patient can vary from person to person. For instance, a person below 55 years of age having no other co-existing disease may be prescribed angiotensin II receptor antagonists (ARAs) (e.g., Valzaar-H Tablet, losartan, olmesartan) or Angiotensin Converting Enzyme (ACE) Inhibitors (e.g., ramipril, captopril or enalapril) by the doctor.
Valzaar-H Tablet does not generally affect the working of a proper functioning kidney. However, there is limited data to support the safety of patients who have existing severe kidney impairment (creatinine clearance <10 ml/min) and are on dialysis. Hence, Valzaar-H Tablet should be used cautiously in such patients. It should only be used when advised by the doctor.
Valzaar-H Tablet should not be given to patients who are allergic to it, have severe liver disease, have diabetes or impaired kidney function. Also, its use should be restricted if you are being treated with blood pressure lowering medicine containing Aliskiren. In addition to that, Valzaar-H Tablet should not be used if you are pregnant or trying to conceive. If you are not sure or have any queries, consult your doctor.
No, Valzaar-H Tablet does not cause weight gain as a side effect. However, if your kidney function deteriorates, your body may swell due to the accumulation of water (fluid retention), resulting in weight gain. Inform your doctor if you experience any unexplained weight gain or swelling in your feet, ankles or hands.
Continue taking Valzaar-H Tablet as long as your doctor has prescribed. Do not stop taking it even if you start feeling better. You may even have to take it lifelong, since Valzaar-H Tablet does not cure high blood pressure or heart failure but controls them.
Taking Valzaar-H Tablet during the last months of pregnancy can cause serious harm or even endanger the unborn baby. Therefore, do not take Valzaar-H Tablet if you are pregnant. Inform your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant. If you become pregnant while taking Valzaar-H Tablet, stop taking Valzaar-H Tablet and call your doctor immediately.
No, do not switch to a different Valzaar-H Tablet product unless your doctor says that you should. Since you have to take it daily, keep a stock of it. Each Valzaar-H Tablet product releases the medication differently in your body and cannot be used interchangeably. Therefore, if you have any concerns regarding Valzaar-H Tablet, consult your doctor.
