Uritop Suspension is an antibiotic that fights bacteria. It is used to treat and prevent bacterial infections of the urinary tract. It works by killing the bacteria that cause such disease. But, it will not treat a viral infection.

Uritop Suspension should be taken in the dose and duration as advised by the doctor. You may take it with food to avoid nausea, which is a common side effect. It is better to have this medicine at the same time each day to get the most benefit and you should keep on taking this medicine for as long as you are prescribed it, even if your symptoms quickly improve. If you stop taking it too early the infection may return or worsen.

Some people may develop side effects like nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. These side effects are usually temporary and go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. Consult your doctor if these side effects bother you or do not go away. This medicine may turn your urine into dark yellow or brown color. But, this is normal and nothing to worry about.

Before starting treatment with this medicine, you should tell your doctor if you are pregnant, breastfeeding or suffering from any liver, kidney or heart problems or if you are allergic to any antibiotic.

Breast feeding

Driving
UNSAFE
Uritop Suspension may decrease alertness, affect your vision or make you feel sleepy and dizzy. Do not drive if these symptoms occur.
Kidney
CAUTION
Uritop Suspension should be used with caution in patients with kidney disease. Dose adjustment of Uritop Suspension may be needed. Please consult your doctor.
Use of Uritop Suspension is not recommended in patients with severe kidney disease, who are unable to pass urine or have high creatinine levels.
Liver
CAUTION
Uritop Suspension should be used with caution in patients with liver disease. Dose adjustment of Uritop Suspension may be needed. Please consult your doctor.
Use of Uritop Suspension is not recommended in patients with severe liver disease and active liver disease.

What if you forget to take Uritop Suspension?

If you miss a dose of Uritop Suspension, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.

Having urine infection since about a month. Took several antibiotics after consultation with doctor but they all show effect only for starting 2 days and then that antibiotic doesn't work. I have taken sporidex 500, zefu cv 500, norflox 400, levofloxin, cefodoxime (each taken for atleast 4-5 days). All work for starting two days then no effect and infection starts to increase. Urine culture report is attached. Kindly suggest medication since problem is increasing day by day.

Uritop Suspension starts acting quickly, but you will not start feeling better immediately after taking it. It may take a few days (2-3 days) before you see any improvement in your symptoms. If you do not start feeling better within 3 days of starting Uritop Suspension or your condition worsens, contact your doctor. It is important to complete the full course of Uritop Suspension as advised by your doctor, even if you start feeling better.

Q. What happens if you take Uritop Suspension without food?

You should take Uritop Suspension with your meal or straightaway after the meal. Taking with food helps in absorption of medicine so that it works better. If you take it without food, you are likely to get an upset stomach. The symptoms include nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, and loss of appetite may also occur. Therefore, to avoid unpleasant side effects, take it exactly as prescribed by your doctor.

Q. Does Uritop Suspension make your urine orange?

Uritop Suspension may turn your urine brown or dark yellow in colour. However, you need not worry as this is usually temporary and completely harmless effect. Yes, some people may get a fungal or yeast infection known as ‘thrush’ after taking Uritop Suspension. This is because antibiotics kill the ‘good bacteria’ which help in preventing thrush. You should inform your doctor if you get vaginal itching or discharge after taking Uritop Suspension or soon after stopping it.

Yes, Uritop Suspension is a strong antibiotic (or broad spectrum antibiotic), which means that it is effective against a wide variety of urinary bacteria. It is important that Uritop Suspension should be given to treat or prevent infections that are proven to be caused by susceptible bacteria. This is usually evaluated by a culture test which demonstrates a range of bacteria which cannot grow in the prence of an antibiotic. Uritop Suspension has seen to be effective against UTI caused by Escherichia coli, Enteroccus faecalis, Klebsiella species, Enterobacter species, Staphylococcus species: (eg S. aureus, S. saprophyticus, S. epidermidis). Some strains of Enterobacter and Klebsiella are resistant to Uritop Suspension.
