Uses of Spegra Tablet

Benefits of Spegra Tablet

Treatment of HIV infection
Spegra Tablet prevents HIV from multiplying in the body. It helps control the infection and make the immune system work better. This lowers the chances of getting complications, such as new infections, and improves the quality of life. This medicine is always taken in combination with other antiretroviral medicines.

It is not a cure of HIV or AIDS and should not be used to prevent HIV after accidental exposure to a risk. It is important to take this medicine as prescribed by the doctor. Taking all doses in the right amount at the right times greatly increases the effectiveness of this combination of medicines and reduces the chances of HIV infection becoming resistant to antiretroviral medicines. Although taking this medicine does not prevent the passing of HIV to other people.

Frequently asked questions

Spegra Tablet is used to treat HIV-1 infection as a complete regimen to help keep the virus under control and protect your immune system. It may be started in people with no known resistance to these medicines, as advised by your doctor.
An individual should not take Spegra Tablet if they have ever had a severe allergic reaction to dolutegravir, emtricitabine, or tenofovir alafenamide, or any ingredient of the medicine. Also, Spegra Tablet should be avoided if taking dofetilide (a heart rhythm medicine), because of dangerous interactions with dolutegravir.
Emtricitabine and tenofovir alafenamide present in Spegra Tablet also act against hepatitis B. If you have HBV and later stop this medicine suddenly, your hepatitis B can flare up and become serious. That’s why doctors test for HBV first and monitor closely if treatment stops.
Serious side effects of Spegra Tablet include severe allergic reaction (rash with fever, mouth sores, swelling, trouble breathing), severe liver problems (yellow skin/eyes, dark urine, stomach pain, extreme tiredness), and lactic acidosis symptoms (deep/fast breathing, severe fatigue, nausea, belly pain). Get medical care immediately if these occur.
Spegra Tablet may affect kidneys and bones. Your doctor may check kidney function and bone health if you are at risk. Tell your doctor if you have a history of kidney disease, bone problems, or if you take other kidney-impacting medicines.
Yes. If you also have hepatitis B, stopping Spegra Tablet can cause a serious flare of hepatitis. Even without HBV, stopping HIV medicines can let the virus rebound and risk resistance. Always talk to your doctor before stopping or changing doses.
Some people taking Spegra Tablet report sleep problems, anxiety, or low mood. Tell your doctor if you notice worsening sleep, depression, or unusual thoughts. Your doctor may review your treatment plan.
Getting HIV under control by Spegra Tablet lowers infection risk overall. However, when your immune system starts to recover, it can cause an inflammatory “immune reconstitution” response to old, hidden infections. Report new or worsening symptoms (fever, cough, eye changes, swollen glands) promptly.
