How to use Ovral Tablet

Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. Ovral Tablet may be taken with or without food, but it is better to take it at a fixed time.

How Ovral Tablet works

Ovral Tablet is a combined oral contraceptive pill. It works by preventing the release of egg (ovulation) and affecting sperm movement in the womb to prevent its union with the egg. It also changes the lining of the womb and renders it unsuitable for pregnancy.

Ovral Tablet related warnings

Taking Ethinyl Estradiol with alcohol can cause minor side effects
Ovral Tablet is highly unsafe to use during pregnancy.
Human and animal studies have shown significant adverse effects on the foetus. Please consult your doctor.
Ovral Tablet is probably safe to use during lactation. Limited human data suggests that the drug does not represent a significant risk to the baby.
Nonhormonal contraceptives is preferred in breastfeeding women, especially during the first 4 weeks postpartum
It is not known whether Ovral Tablet alters the ability to drive. Do not drive if you experience any symptoms that affect your ability to concentrate and react.
There is limited information available on the use of Ovral Tablet in patients with kidney disease. Please consult your doctor.

Hi PATIENT to 1mgdoctors. Adenomyosis is a uterine problem and would cause pain during and before periods and also irregular bleeding. Try taking combined OCPS like ovral L to control the pain and bleeding. BUT the problem would recur whenever the medicines are stopped. The only complete cure would be to get the uterus removed. I have been suffering from irregular menstruation (late). I consulted doctor and had to do USG. My report is normal and she advised me to take femilon tab. My marriage is next month. Will femilon act as reliable contraceptive too? If yes, then please tell me the rule to take it. Please reply

Q. Are there any specific contraindications associated with the use of Ovral?
The use of Ovral is not recommended to patients with known allergy to any of its components or excipients. It is not advised to be used by patients with a history of high blood pressure, heart disease, diabetes mellitus, migraine headache, liver disease or tumors, uterine bleeding, breast cancer, deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism (blood clot).
Q. Can Ovral be taken by a patient who smokes?
Ovral should not be taken by a person who smokes. Smoking increases the risk of serious side effects like death from heart attack, blood clots or stroke. The risk increases in patients who are obese or over 35 years of age and people who are heavy smokers. Inform your doctor if you smoke, before taking Ovral.
Q. What if I miss my regular menstrual periods while taking Ovral?
If you miss your menstrual periods while taking Ovral, you may be pregnant. Some women may miss periods or have light periods while taking Ovral even if they are not pregnant. Contact your doctor if you think you are pregnant or have missed one or two periods. This may happen in case you are not taking Ovral at the same time every day.
Q. Which medicines should I avoid while taking Ovral?
The use of Ovral should be avoided with drugs or herbal products that induce certain enzymes (e.g. CYP3A4) in our body. These drugs may decrease the effectiveness of Ovral or increase breakthrough bleeding (bleeding between menstrual periods). Inform your doctor about all the medicines you are taking when you are advised to take Ovral.
Q. Can Ovral cause bleeding or spotting between the regular menstrual periods?
Yes, Ovral can cause some unexpected bleeding or spotting, especially during the first three months. Do not stop taking Ovral because of this. This bleeding or spotting decreases with time. You may have unexpected bleeding if you do not take the pills regularly. Consult your doctor if the spotting continues for more than seven days or if the bleeding is heavy.
Q. What are the instructions for storage and disposal of Ovral?
Keep this medicine in the container it came in, tightly closed. Store it according to the instructions mentioned on the pack or label. Dispose of the unused medicine. Make sure it is not consumed by pets, children and other people.
