Introduction of Orserm Capsule

Orserm 60 mg Capsule is a medicine used as an oral contraceptive pill. It helps to prevent pregnancy as does not allow implantation of the fertilized ovum to the womb (uterus).

In higher doses, Orserm 60 mg Capsule is also used to control abnormal vaginal bleeding in women who have not attained menopause (end of the monthly menstrual period). It should be taken with or without food and is convenient to use, as required only one tablet in a week. It has very minimal side effects but in some cases it may cause irregular menstural cycle. It is safe for breastfeeding mothers also.

Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Do not chew, crush or break it. Orserm 60 mg Capsule may be taken with or without food, but it is better to take it at a fixed time.

Combined pills can't be taken to avoid pregnancy. You can take emergency contraception pills but remember they have high failure rates. Do a urine pregnancy test if your periods are delayed.

Q. What is Orserm and for what it is used for?

Orserm contains a non-hormonal medicine, i.e. Centchroman/Ormeloxifene. It is used as an oral contraceptive medicine. It may also be used in the treatment of uterine bleeding.

Q. How and in what dose should I take Orserm?

You should take Orserm, as advised by your doctor. However, for contraception, you are required to take two tablets a week for the first 12 weeks ( for e.g. on Sunday and Wednesday), and then one tablet a week. It is also advisable to use condom, in addition to taking Orserm, for the period of the first 8 weeks of use.

Q. I am breastfeeding my baby. Is Orserm safe for me?

Yes, Orserm is safe for breastfeeding mothers as it is a non-hormonal and non-steroidal medicine.

Q. If I become pregnant while on Orserm, will my fetus be harmed?

Such a situation is called method failure where the contraception fails to prevent pregnancy. In case you conceive even after taking Novex, there is nothing to worry about. This medicine does not cause anomalies in the fetus and the baby has normal growth and development. However, stop taking this medicine as soon as you get to know about your pregnancy.

Q. What if I miss my pill?

Take the missed pill as soon as you remember. If the pill is missed by 1 or more days but less than 7 days, follow the regular schedule and use an alternate method (e.g. condoms) till the next period. If the pill is missed by more than 7 days, restart the schedule like a new user.

Q. What are the common side effects of taking Orserm?

As per the clinical studies conducted so far in women of reproductive age groups, Orserm (Centchroman or Ormeloxifene) has been found to be safe and free from the common side effects of hormonal birth control pills. If any new sign or symptom bothers you while taking Orserm, please consult with your doctor.
