Introduction of Olmezest Tablet

Olmezest 40 Tablet helps reduce high blood pressure, thus lowering the chances of any future heart attack and stroke. It may also be used to improve the symptoms of chronic (long-standing) heart failure. It helps to preserve kidney function, especially in patients with diabetes.

Olmezest 40 Tablet may be used alone or in combination with other medicines. It is taken by mouth (orally), with or without food, preferably at a fixed time each day. Side effects are few and uncommon with this medicine. However, dizziness may occur due to low blood pressure, particularly after the first dose.

How to use Olmezest Tablet

Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. Olmezest 40 Tablet may be taken with or without food, but it is better to take it at a fixed time.

How Olmezest Tablet works

Olmezest 40 Tablet is an angiotensin receptor blocker (ARB). It relaxes blood vessel by blocking the action of a chemical that usually makes blood vessels tighter. This lowers the blood pressure, allowing the blood to flow more smoothly to different organs and the heart to pump more efficiently.

It is unsafe to consume alcohol with Olmezest 40 Tablet Taking Olmezest 40 Tablet with alcohol may excessively lower the blood pressure.
Pregnancy

Olmezest 40 Tablet is unsafe to use during pregnancy as there is definite evidence of risk to the developing baby. However, the doctor may rarely prescribe it in some life-threatening situations if the benefits are more than the potential risks. Please consult your doctor.
Lactation
SAFE IF PRESCRIBED
Olmezest 40 Tablet is probably safe to use during breastfeeding. Limited human data suggests that the drug does not represent any significant risk to the baby.
Driving
UNSAFE
Olmezest 40 Tablet may decrease alertness, affect your vision or make you feel sleepy and dizzy. Do not drive if these symptoms occur.
Kidney
CAUTION
Olmezest 40 Tablet should be used with caution in patients with severe kidney disease. Dose adjustment of Olmezest 40 Tablet may be needed. Please consult your doctor.
Regular monitoring of blood pressure is advisable for dose adjustment.
Liver
CAUTION
Olmezest 40 Tablet should be used with caution in patients with severe liver disease. Dose adjustment of Olmezest 40 Tablet may be needed. Please consult your doctor.
No dose adjustment is recommended in patients with mild liver disease.

What if you miss a dose of Olmezest Tablet?

If you miss a dose of Olmezest 40 Tablet, skip it and continue with your normal schedule. Do not double the dose.

  • It can make you feel dizzy for the first few days. Rise slowly if you have been sitting or lying down for a long time.
  • Your doctor may get regular tests done to monitor the level of  urea, creatinine, and potassium in your blood.
  • Avoid taking anti-inflammatory medicines such as ibuprofen, along with this medicine without consulting your doctor.
  • It may increase the level of potassium in blood. Avoid taking potassium supplements and potassium-rich foods such as banana and broccoli.
  • Do not take Olmezest 40 Tablet if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • Do not stop taking it suddenly without talking to your doctor.

Voglibose and pioglitazone both are medications used for diabetes but there mechanism of action is different and so are their side effects. Voglibose acts to reduce post prandial blood glucose whereas pioglitazone improves insulin sensitivity and improves glycemic control. Voglibose causes gastric side effects and sometimes affects the liver whereas pioglitazone should not be given to patients with heart ailments as it can worsen heart failure.

Yes, the use of Olmezest can make you feel dizzy. This may occur when you suddenly get up from lying or sitting position. To lower the chance of feeling dizzy or passing out, rise slowly if you have been sitting or lying down.

You may notice a decrease in your blood pressure effectively within 2 weeks of starting Olmezest. However, it may take about 8 weeks to see the full benefits of this medicine.

Making lifestyle changes while taking Olmezest can boost your health. Avoid smoking, as smoking increases your risk of having heart attack and stroke. Olmezest does not have a diuretic. Olmezest is a medicine used to lower high blood pressure. It belongs to a group of medicines called angiotensin-II receptor antagonists. These medicines lower the blood pressure by relaxing the blood vessels. Olmezest can also be combined with a diuretic for providing additional benefit in the reduction of blood pressure.

You may have to take Olmezest for a long term maybe even life long. Olmezest controls high blood pressure but does not cure it. Do not stop taking it even if your blood pressure is controlled. Olmezest is generally considered safe to be taken for long term. In some cases, long-term use may adversely affect the kidneys and the kidneys may not function as they should. Therefore, to keep a track of how well your kidneys are working, your doctor may prescribe regular blood tests.

Q. Can Olmezest cause weight gain?

No, Olmezest does not cause weight gain. However, in very rare cases, chronic diarrhea with substantial weight loss may occur. If a patient develops diarrhea while taking Olmezest and no other cause of diarrhea can be deduced, then Olmezest should be discontinued immediately and should not be restarted.

Q. Can I take Olmezest before surgery?

Your doctor may advise you to stop taking Olmezest 24 hours before surgery. This is because Olmezest can further reduce your blood pressure when used with anesthetics. So, tell your doctor that you’re taking Olmezest if you will be given general anesthetics (medicines that put you to sleep) or are scheduled to have any surgery.
