Nitrotap Applicap is a medicine used in the prevention of angina (chest pain). It works by relaxing and widening blood vessels so blood can flow more easily. This improves blood flow and reduces the symptoms associated with angina (chest pain).
Nitrotap Applicap is for external use only. Use it in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Read the package insert for complete information. Gently apply the ointment onto the selected skin area. Spread it evenly in a thin layer using a clean finger. Do not get it into your mouth, eyes, or nose. In case of accidental contact, rinse it off thoroughly with clean water.
This medicine is generally well tolerated with minimal or no side effects. However, if you experience any symptoms which you feel is caused by the medicine, let your doctor know. They may be able to help you by changing your dosage or by prescribing you an alternate medicine.

- Stop taking medications (prescribed for erectile dysfunction) like sildenafil or tadalafil while on treatment with Nitrotap Applicap as it may cause low blood pressure.

How do I apply Nitrotap Applicap to my skin for angina prevention?
Nitrotap Applicap comes with special dose-measuring papers. You will squeeze the prescribed amount of medicine onto the paper, and then use the paper to spread a thin layer of the ointment onto a hair-free area of skin on your upper body, such as your chest or upper arm. Do not rub it in. You can then tape the paper in place to keep the medicine from smearing.<br>
Can I use Nitrotap Applicap to treat an angina attack that is already happening?
No. Nitrotap Applicap is not for immediate relief of an ongoing angina attack. It is absorbed too slowly to be effective for acute chest pain. The medicine is a long-term, preventative treatment that you must use regularly. For a sudden attack, you need a faster-acting form of nitroglycerin, like a sublingual medicine or spray.<br>
I get a headache after I apply Nitrotap Applicap. Is that normal?
Yes. A headache is the most common side effect of Nitrotap Applicap, regardless of how it is applied. This happens because the medicine widens the blood vessels, including those in your head. This side effect is usually most severe when you first start the treatment, and often lessens or goes away as your body gets used to the medicine.<br>
Why do I need to have a "nitrate-free" period each day during Nitrotap Applicap treatment?
Your body can build up a tolerance to Nitrotap Applicap, which would make it less effective. To prevent this, your doctor will likely schedule your doses to provide a "nitrate-free" interval of about 10 to 12 hours each day. For the topical medicine, this is often achieved by applying it in the morning, and again 6 hours later, leaving the overnight period free of the medicine.<br>
