Product introduction

Nitroin Tablet SR should be taken in the dose and duration as advised by the doctor. You may take it with food to avoid nausea, which is a common side effect. It is better to have this medicine at the same time each day to get the most benefit and you should keep on taking this medicine for as long as you are prescribed it, even if your symptoms quickly improve. If you stop taking it too early the infection may return or worsen.
Some people may develop side effects like nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. These side effects are usually temporary and go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. Consult your doctor if these side effects bother you or do not go away. This medicine may turn your urine into dark yellow or brown color. But, this is normal and nothing to worry about.
Before starting treatment with this medicine, you should tell your doctor if you are pregnant, breastfeeding or suffering from any liver, kidney or heart problems or if you are allergic to any antibiotic.

Because of this damage, the bacteria cannot grow, repair themselves, or survive, which helps clear the infection from the urinary tract.

Taking Nitroin with any of the following medicines can modify the effect of either of them and cause some undesirable side effects

Cholera Vaccine (Inactivated) (Oral Route)

Do not consume Cholera Vaccine (Inactivated) two weeks before and at least 10 days after consuming Nitrofurantoin. Please consult your doctor. Nitrofurantoin may reduce the efficacy of Cholera Vaccine (Inactivated).
Severe

Purified Vi Polysaccharide Typhoid Vaccine (Injection Route)

Nitrofurantoin may reduce the efficacy of Purified Vi Polysaccharide Typhoid Vaccine. Nitrofurantoin may reduce the efficacy of Purified Vi Polysaccharide Typhoid Vaccine.

Frequently asked questions

Nitroin Tablet SR starts acting quickly, but you will not start feeling better immediately after taking it. It may take a few days (2-3 days) before you see any improvement in your symptoms. If you do not start feeling better within 3 days of starting Nitroin Tablet SR or your condition worsens, contact your doctor. It is important to complete the full course of Nitroin Tablet SR as advised by your doctor, even if you start feeling better.
You should take Nitroin Tablet SR with your meal or straightaway after the meal. Taking with food helps in absorption of medicine so that it works better. If you take it without food, you are likely to get an upset stomach. The symptoms include nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, and loss of appetite may also occur. Therefore, to avoid unpleasant side effects, take it exactly as prescribed by your doctor.
Nitroin Tablet SR may turn your urine brown or dark yellow in colour. However, you need not worry as this is usually temporary and completely harmless effect. Yes, Nitroin Tablet SR is a strong antibiotic (or broad spectrum antibiotic), which means that it is effective against a wide variety of urinary bacteria. It is important that Nitroin Tablet SR should be given to treat or prevent infections that are proven to be caused by susceptible bacteria. This is usually evaluated by a culture test which demonstrates a range of bacteria which cannot grow in the prence of an antibiotic. Nitroin Tablet SR has seen to be effective against UTI caused by Escherichia coli, Enteroccus faecalis, Klebsiella species, Enterobacter species, Staphylococcus species: (eg S. aureus, S. saprophyticus, S. epidermidis). Some strains of Enterobacter and Klebsiella are resistant to Nitroin Tablet SR.
