Frequently asked questions about Levocom Tablet

Frequently asked questions about Levocom Tablet

Q. What is Levocom?
Levocom is a combination of two medicines: Levodopa and Carbidopa. This medicine is used to treat the symptoms of Parkinson's disease. Parkinson's symptoms, including tremors (shaking), stiffness, and slowness of movement, are caused by a lack of dopamine, a natural substance usually found in the brain. Levodopa works by being converted to dopamine in the brain. Carbidopa works by preventing levodopa from being broken down before it reaches the brain. By increasing the amount of dopamine in the brain, Levocom helps control the parkinson symptoms and helps you to perform daily activities such as dressing, walking, handling utensils etc.
Q. Can I stop taking Levocom when my symptoms are relieved?
No, you should continue to take Levocom even if you feel well. Do not stop taking Levocom without talking to your doctor. If you suddenly stop taking Levocom, you could develop a serious problem that causes fever, rigid muscles, unusual body movements, and confusion. Your doctor will probably decrease your dose gradually.
Q. Can the Levocom cause sleepiness or drowsiness?
Levocom may make you drowsy or may cause you to suddenly fall asleep during your regular daily activities. You might not feel drowsy or have any other warning signs before you suddenly fall asleep. Do not drive a car, operate machinery, work at heights, or participate in potentially dangerous activities at the beginning of your treatment until you know how the medication affects you. If you suddenly fall asleep while you are doing something such as watching television, talking, eating, or riding in a car, or if you become very drowsy, especially during the daytime, call your doctor. Do not drive, work in high places, or operate machinery until you talk to your doctor.
Q. Can the Levocom cause dark urine?
Levocom may change the colour of saliva, urine, or sweat and make it dark coloured (red, brown, or black). This is harmless, but your clothing may become stained.
Q. Are there any special dietary instructions while taking Levocom?
Avoid taking iron supplements or eating a diet that is high in protein (protein sources include meat, eggs, and cheese). These things can make it harder for your body to digest and absorb Levocom. Consult the doctor or nutrition counsellor about the best foods to eat while taking Levocom.
Q. How long does Levocom take to cure Parkinson disease?
Levocom controls Parkinson's disease but does not cure it. It may take several months before you feel the full benefit of Levocom.
Q. Can I take a higher dose of this medicine than recommended?
No, taking higher than the recommended dose of Levocom can lead to increased chances of side effects and toxicity. Talk with your doctor if your symptoms do not improve after a few weeks of treatment. Also tell your doctor if the effects of this medication seem to wear off quickly in between doses.
Q. Does Levocom expire?
Yes, Levocom does expire. Please check the expiry date written on the pack of this medicine. Do not use Levocom after the expiry date.
