How to use Floxid Suspension

Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Check the label for directions before use. Measure it with a measuring cup and take it by mouth. Shake well before use. Floxid 100mg/100mg Suspension is to be taken with food.
Taking it empty stomach can cause stomach upset.

How Floxid Suspension works

Floxid 100mg/100mg Suspension is a combination of two antibiotics: Norfloxacin and Tinidazole. Norfloxacin works by preventing the bacterial cells from dividing and repairing, thereby killing the bacteria. Tinidazole kills parasites and anaerobic bacteria that cause infections by damaging their DNA. Together, they treat your infection effectively.

Floxid 100mg/100mg Suspension may cause symptoms such as flushing, increased heartbeat, nausea, thirst, chest pain and low blood pressure with alcohol (Disulfiram reactions).
Pregnancy

Floxid 100mg/100mg Suspension may be unsafe to use during pregnancy.
Animal studies have shown adverse effects on the fetus, however, there are limited human studies. The benefits from use in pregnant women may be acceptable despite the risk. Please consult your doctor.

Floxid 100mg/100mg Suspension is probably unsafe to use during lactation. Limited human data suggest that the drug could represent a significant risk to the baby.
Driving
Do not drive unless you are feeling well.
Floxid 100mg/100mg Suspension may make you feel drowsy or gives you problems with coordination or sensation (e.g. numbness or weakness). This may affect your driving ability.
Kidney
CAUTION
Floxid 100mg/100mg Suspension should be used with caution in patients with kidney disease. Dose adjustment of Floxid 100mg/100mg Suspension may be needed. Please consult your doctor.
Use of Floxid 100mg/100mg Suspension is not advised in patients with severe kidney disease.
Liver
Floxid 100mg/100mg Suspension is probably safe to use in patients with liver disease. Limited data available suggests that dose adjustment of Floxid 100mg/100mg Suspension may not be needed in these patients. Please consult your doctor.

Q. What is Floxid?

Floxid is a combination of two medicines: Norfloxacin and Tinidazole. This medication is used to treat diarrhea caused due to infection. They work by killing the harmful microorganisms that cause infection. Together they help to treat infection more effectively.

Q. Can I stop taking Floxid when my symptoms are relieved?

No, do not stop taking Floxid and complete the full course of treatment, even if you feel better. Your symptoms may improve before the infection is completely cured.

Q. Can Floxid increase the risk of tendon rupture?

Yes, Floxid is known to increase the risk of tendon rupture commonly in the achilles tendon. Tendon problems can happen in people of all ages who take Floxid. Inform your health care provider if you hear or feel a snap or pop, have severe pain, rapid or immediate bruising after an accident, and are unable to use the affected arm or leg. This may indicate that you have a tendon rupture.

Q. Can the use of Floxid cause metallic taste?

Yes, Floxid can cause a temporary metallic taste. This metallic taste can be reduced by chewing sugar-free gum or mints, brushing teeth after the meals and by staying hydrated.

Q. Are there any specific contraindications associated with the use of Floxid?

The use of Floxid is considered to be harmful for patients with known allergy to norfloxacin or tinidazole or any other excipient present in the medicine. It should preferably be avoided in patients with a history of tendinitis (inflammation of the tendons) or tendon rupture caused because of the use of ciprofloxacin or any other medicine which belongs to the quinolone group of antimicrobial agents. It is also avoided in patients with some neurological disorders.

Q. Can I drink alcohol while taking Floxid?

No, avoid drinking alcohol while taking Floxid and for at least 3 days after the dosage is completed. Drinking alcohol while taking this medicine may cause an unpleasant reaction (Disulfuram like reaction) with symptoms such as stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, headache, flushing or redness of the face.

Q. Can I take ORS solution with Floxid?

Yes, you can take ORS (oral rehydration salts) with Floxid. ORS is a special combination of dry salts that is mixed with clean drinking water. It can help restore the fluids lost due to diarrhea. ORS packets or solution can be availed from the nearest pharmacy, shop or from our website.

Q. Can I take a higher than the recommended dose of this medicine?

No, taking a higher than the recommended dose of Floxid can lead to increased side effects. Floxid takes time to show its full effect and treat your infection.
