Dextomid 200mcg Injection

Overview

Introduction

Dextomid 200mcg Injection is a prescription medicine used to provide sedation (a state of calm, drowsiness, or sleep) for adult patients in intensive care settings. It may also be used for awake sedation during diagnostic and surgical procedures.

Dextomid 200mcg Injection is given as an infusion (drip) into a vein under the supervision of a healthcare professional. It is important to inform your doctor if you are suffering from any medical conditions like slow heart rate, low blood pressure, neurological disorder, severe liver problems, or have ever developed a serious fever after some medicines, especially after taking anesthesia. Your doctor will monitor the cardiac and respiratory state after providing this injection.

It may cause dryness in mouth, decreased blood pressure and slow heart rate as side effects of this medicine. Please consult your doctor if these side effects do not improve with time or worsen.

Side effects of Dextomid Injection

Common
  • Decreased blood pressure
  • Dryness in mouth

How to cope with side effects?

The occurrence of side effects varies from person to person. The following are a few ways of dealing with some of the common side effects. However, consult your doctor if these persist.

  • Coping with Decreased blood pressure
Get up slowly from a sitting or lying position. Try to avoid changing positions suddenly even in general. Try crossing your legs when you are sitting and wearing compression stockings. Drink plenty of water and try eating smaller, more frequent meals. Although salt is not good for everyone (and bad for some people), if you have low blood pressure increasing your intake of salt (sodium) can raise your blood pressure. Cut down the amount of alcohol you drink. If your blood pressure becomes very low, you should talk to your doctor.
  • Coping with Dryness in mouth
Keep a drink available that you can sip through the day. Rinse your mouth with warm salted water and chew sugarless gum or hard candy. Try breathing through your nose more often than your mouth. Avoid caffeinated beverages, smoking and alcohol because they can make your condition worse. Use lip balm if your lips are also dry. Try to avoid foods that are acidic (like lemons), spicy, salty or sugary. If this side effect bothers you or does not go away, talk to your doctor about artificial saliva products or other suitable treatments.
