Ceftil 125mg Tablet

Prescription Required

Your child’s medicine at a glance

Ceftil 125mg Tablet effectively treats bacterial infections of the ear, nose, throat, lungs, skin, soft tissues, bones, joints, and urinary tract in children. It is also given to prevent infection in animal and human bite wounds and may also be given before surgical procedures as a preventive therapy.

Ceftil 125mg Tablet can be given either before or after meals but giving it with food improves absorption and reduces the chances of stomach upset in your child. The dose and duration depend upon the type and severity of the infection, so stick to the dose, time, and way prescribed by the doctor. If your child vomits within 30 minutes of the intake, give the same dose again but do not double dose if it is already time for the next dose.

This medicine may have some minor and temporary side effects such as vomiting, diarrhea, nausea, abdominal pain, and allergy. These episodes should start receding after a few doses. However, if these side effects persist or become bothersome for your child, report to the doctor without any delay.

Narrate your child’s complete medical history to your child’s doctor, including any previous episode of allergy, heart problem, a blood disorder, birth defects, airway obstruction, lung anomaly, gastrointestinal problem, skin disorder, liver impairment, and kidney malfunction. This information is critical for dose alterations and for planning your child’s overall treatment.

FAQs

Q. My child is underweight and is not growing as per his age. Is it safe to give Ceftil 125mg Tablet?

Use Ceftil 125mg Tablet with caution as it may be associated with blood clotting problems especially in children who are underweight and not growing adequately. This risk is further increased if the child has underlying liver and kidney disease. Consult your child’s doctor in such cases.

Q. My child is suffering from a seizure disorder. Can I give Ceftil 125mg Tablet to my child?

Ceftil 125mg Tablet may cause seizure activity, particularly in children who have kidney disease. So, Ceftil 125mg Tablet should be used with caution in children with a history of seizure disorder. If seizures occur, discontinue Ceftil 125mg Tablet and visit your child’s doctor right away.

Q. What if I give too much of Ceftil 125mg Tablet by mistake?

An extra dose of Ceftil 125mg Tablet is unlikely to harm. However, if you think you have given too much of Ceftil 125mg Tablet to your child, immediately speak to a doctor. Overdose may cause unwanted side effects and may even worsen your child’s condition.

Q. Are there any possible serious side effects of Ceftil 125mg Tablet?

Some serious side effects of this medicine include persistent vomiting, kidney damage, allergy, diarrhea, and severe gastrointestinal infections. Always consult your child’s doctor for help in such a situation.

Q. Can other medicines be given at the same time as Ceftil 125mg Tablet?

Ceftil 125mg Tablet can sometimes interact with other medicines or substances. Tell your doctor about any other medicines your child is taking before starting Ceftil 125mg Tablet. Also, check with your child’s doctor before giving any medicine to your child.

Q. Can I get my child vaccinated while on treatment with Ceftil 125mg Tablet?

Antibiotics usually do not interfere with the ingredients in vaccines or cause a bad reaction in a child who has just been vaccinated. However, children taking antibiotics should not get vaccinated until they recover from the illness. As soon as your child feels better, the vaccine can be given.

Q. Which lab tests may my child undergo while taking Ceftil 125mg Tablet on a long-term basis?

The doctor may prescribe getting kidney function tests and liver function tests periodically to keep a check on your child’s condition.

Q. Does a common cold caused by viruses always result in a secondary bacterial infection? When to start an antibiotic to prevent infection?

In most cases, bacterial infections do not follow viral infections. Using antibiotics to treat viral infections may instead lead to side effects without benefiting your child's health. Hence, you must give antibiotics to your child only after consulting with your child’s doctor.

Q. Can Ceftil 125mg Tablet impact my child’s digestion?

Antibiotics kill the infection-causing bacteria, but while doing this they may affect the good bacteria present in the gastrointestinal tract. As a result, your child may develop diarrhea or some other infections as well. Moreover, children have a more sensitive stomach than adults, so the likelihood of developing a stomach upset is more. In case your child is having diarrhea while on Ceftil 125mg Tablet, do not stop the medicine course. Instead, call your child’s doctor to ask about the next steps. In some cases, the doctor may alter the dose.

Q. How long does Ceftil 125mg Tablet take to work?

The amount of time Ceftil 125mg Tablet takes to work depends on the type of infection and response of the patient to the medicine. The antibiotic may start working after you take it, but for maximum effect, it may require some time. Usually, the symptoms of bacterial infections start to decrease in 48 to 72 hours after starting the medication.

Q. How long should you take Ceftil 125mg Tablet?

The duration of therapy with Ceftil 125mg Tablet depends upon the type of infection. It is usually given for 7 days. It ranges from 5 to 10 days and depends on the response of the infection in the patient. Before starting the medication consult a doctor who will prescribe the exact duration of therapy and follow the instructions as given.

Q. Can Ceftil 125mg Tablet be taken on an empty stomach?

No, Ceftil 125mg Tablet should not be taken on an empty stomach like other antibiotics of its class. It should be taken twice daily after a meal. Taking Ceftil 125mg Tablet with food increases the absorption rate of the drug. This further enhances the effectiveness of the medicine to treat the infection.

Q. Can Ceftil 125mg Tablet treat UTI?

Yes, Ceftil 125mg Tablet can be used to treat urinary tract infection (UTI). But, it is prescribed only in cases of uncomplicated UTIs for 7 to 10 days. The medication is to be prescribed by the doctor only, self-medication is not advised. The severity of the UTI decides the kind of therapy needed to treat it.
