Cefrobact 125 Oral Suspension

Prescription Required

Your child’s medicine at a glance

Cefrobact 125 Oral Suspension effectively treats bacterial infections of the ear, nose, throat, lungs, skin, soft tissues, bones, joints, and urinary tract in children. It is also given to prevent infection in animal and human bite wounds and may also be given before surgical procedures as a preventive therapy.

Cefrobact 125 Oral Suspension can be given either before or after meals but giving it with food improves absorption and reduces the chances of stomach upset in your child. The dose and duration depend upon the type and severity of the infection, so stick to the dose, time, and way prescribed by the doctor. If your child vomits within 30 minutes of the intake, give the same dose again but do not double dose if it is already time for the next dose.

This medicine may have some minor and temporary side effects such as vomiting, diarrhea, nausea, abdominal pain, allergy, and transient increased in liver enzymes. These episodes should start receding after a few doses. However, if these side effects persist or become bothersome for your child, report to the doctor without any delay.

Narrate your child’s complete medical history to your child’s doctor, including any previous episode of allergy, heart problem, a blood disorder, birth defects, airway obstruction, lung anomaly, gastrointestinal problem, skin disorder, liver impairment, and kidney malfunction. This information is critical for dose alterations and for planning your child’s overall treatment.

Q. What if I give too much of Cefrobact 125 Oral Suspension by mistake?

An extra dose of Cefrobact 125 Oral Suspension is unlikely to harm. However, if you think you have given too much of Cefrobact 125 Oral Suspension to your child, immediately speak to a doctor.

Q. Can other medicines be given at the same time as Cefrobact 125 Oral Suspension?

Cefrobact 125 Oral Suspension can sometimes interact with other medicines or substances. Tell your doctor about any other medicines your child is taking before starting Cefrobact 125 Oral Suspension. Also, check with your child’s doctor before giving any medicine to your child.

Q. Can I get my child vaccinated while on treatment with Cefrobact 125 Oral Suspension ?

Q. Which lab tests may my child undergo while taking Cefrobact 125 Oral Suspension on a long-term basis?

The doctor may prescribe getting kidney function tests and liver function tests periodically to keep a check on your child’s condition.

Q. Does a common cold caused by viruses always result in a secondary bacterial infection? When to start an antibiotic to prevent infection?

In most cases, bacterial infections do not follow viral infections. Using antibiotics to treat viral infections may instead lead to side effects without benefiting your child's health. Hence, you must give antibiotics to your child only after consulting with your child’s doctor.

Q. Can Cefrobact 125 Oral Suspension impact my child’s digestion?

Antibiotics kill the infection-causing bacteria, but while doing this they may affect the good bacteria present in the gastrointestinal tract. As a result, your child may develop diarrhea or some other infections as well. Moreover, children have a more sensitive stomach than adults, so the likelihood of developing a stomach upset is more. In case your child is having diarrhea while on Cefrobact 125 Oral Suspension, do not stop the medicine course. Instead, call your child’s doctor to ask about the next steps. In some cases, the doctor may alter the dose.

Q. How long does Cefrobact 125 Oral Suspension take to work?

The amount of time Cefrobact 125 Oral Suspension takes to work depends on the type of infection and response of the patient to the medicine. Usually, the symptoms of bacterial infections start to decrease in 48 to 72 hours after starting the medication.

Q. How long should you take Cefrobact 125 Oral Suspension?

The duration of therapy with Cefrobact 125 Oral Suspension depends upon the type of infection. It is usually given for 7 days. It ranges from 5 to 10 days and depends on the response of the infection in the patient. Before starting the medication consult a doctor who will prescribe the exact duration of therapy and follow the instructions as given.

Q. Can Cefrobact 125 Oral Suspension be taken on an empty stomach?

No, Cefrobact 125 Oral Suspension should not be taken on an empty stomach like other antibiotics of its class. It should be taken twice daily after a meal.
