Overview

Introduction of Bifosa Tablet

Bifosa 70 Tablet is used in the treatment of osteoporosis. It reduces bone breakdown in the body and makes the bones stronger and lowers the risk of fractures. It treats osteoporosis in postmenopausal women and reduces the risk of bone fractures in men.

Bifosa 70 Tablet should be taken in an empty stomach. Swallow it as a whole, do not crush or break it. Use it regularly and at the same time of each day to get the most benefit from the medicine. Do not stop taking it suddenly without talking to your doctor.

Using of Bifosa 70 Tablet may cause few side effects such as headache, indigestion, heartburn, diarrhea and pain in the joints, bone or muscle. It may decrease the amount of calcium in your body. Take calcium-rich food in your diet and have regular blood tests to monitor the level of calcium in your blood. If you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant or have kidney disease, inform your doctor before taking the medicine.

How to use Bifosa Tablet

Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. Bifosa 70 Tablet is to be taken empty stomach.

How Bifosa Tablet works

Bifosa 70 Tablet is a bisphosphonate. It works by suppressing the activity of osteoclasts, cells that cause destruction of bone. This strengthens the bones and minimizes the risk of fractures.

Consuming alcohol with Bifosa 70 Tablet does not cause any harmful side effects.
Pregnancy
CONSULT YOUR DOCTOR
Bifosa 70 Tablet may be unsafe to use during pregnancy. Although there are limited studies in humans, animal studies have shown harmful effects on the developing baby. Your doctor will weigh the benefits and any potential risks before prescribing it to you. Please consult your doctor.
Lactation
SAFE IF PRESCRIBED
Bifosa 70 Tablet is probably safe to use during breastfeeding. Limited human data suggests that the drug does not represent any significant risk to the baby.
If you are taking Bifosa 70 Tablet during breastfeeding, monitor baby's blood calcium levels during the first two months.
Driving
UNSAFE
Bifosa 70 Tablet may cause side effects which could affect your ability to drive.
Bifosa 70 Tablet is not expected to have any effects but in rare cases, it may cause dizziness, severe muscle, joint and bone pain and eye pain or inflammation. This may affect your ability to drive.
Kidney
CAUTION
Bifosa 70 Tablet should be used with caution in patients with severe kidney disease. Dose adjustment of Bifosa 70 Tablet may be needed. Please consult your doctor.
Dose adjustment is not recommended in patients with mild to moderate kidney disease.
Liver
SAFE IF PRESCRIBED
Bifosa 70 Tablet is probably safe to use in patients with liver disease. Limited data available suggests that dose adjustment of Bifosa 70 Tablet may not be needed in these patients. Please consult your doctor.

What if you miss a dose of Bifosa Tablet?

If you miss a dose of Bifosa 70 Tablet, skip it and continue with your normal schedule. Do not double the dose.

Q. Is alendronic acid safe/ dangerous/ a biphosphate/ a steroid/ vitamin D?

Alendronic acid belongs to class of medications called bisphosphonates. It is not a steroid or vitamin D. It is safe if used at prescribed doses for the prescribed duration as advised by your doctor

Q. Can I take ibuprofen/ paracetamol with alendronic acid?

Avoid taking alendronic acid with NSAIDs such as ibuprofen and paracetamol as it increases the gastrointestinal related side effects

Q. Does Bifosa affect your teeth?

Bifosa is not known to affect the teeth. However, bone damage in the jaw (osteonecrosis) generally associated with delayed healing and infection is known to occur following tooth extraction

Q. Does alendronic acid contain calcium/ vitamin D?

Alendronic acid does not contain calcium and vitamin D. You doctor may ask to take calcium or vitamin D

Q. Does Bifosa cause cancer/ hair loss/ make you tired/ increase in blood pressure?

Bifosa has a side effect of causing hair loss and tiredness. However, it is not known to cause cancer or increase in blood pressure. Consult your doctor if you experience such side effects.
