An X-Ray of the right foot is a radiological test used to image the parts of the right foot. An X-ray test uses a small dose of ionizing radiation to image the bones and soft tissues. The soft tissues appear dark, while the bones appear white in an X-ray scan. The doctor may recommend this test to diagnose abnormalities of the right foot like fractures, dislocations, infections, arthritis (inflammation of joints), etc. X-ray scans are also used to monitor the healing of bones after surgical procedures.

X-ray tests are safe and painless imaging techniques. The test takes about 20 minutes, though the exposure time to radiation usually lasts about a second only. X-ray tests are generally not preferred for pregnant women.

What are the drawbacks of a bone X-ray?

X-ray images give a very clear view of the bones. However, it does not provide a good visual image of the soft tissues like tendons, muscles or fat tissue under the skin. Even the bone microfractures or complicated spine injuries are not clearly visible on the X Ray images. Apart from this, it also exposes the patient to some amount of radiations but the benefit of the information gained from an X-ray image outweighs the risk of radiations.

Who interprets the X-ray results?

The interpretation of an X-Ray image is carried out by a radiologist who analyses or reads the X-ray image and prepares a report of the findings which is shared with the patient.
