An X-ray right ankle lateral view is a safe and easy method to visualise the lateral view of the bones and soft tissue of your right ankle. The X-ray, a black and white image produced on a unique X-ray film by an X-ray machine, will help assess your ankle bones. The X-ray right ankle covered the bones lat view are the lower leg bones (tibia and fibula), the bones of the hindfoot (talus, navicular, cuboid), the bottom of the 5th long bone of the foot (metatarsal), and the heel bone (calcaneus).
The lateral view right ankle X-ray is indicated when your doctor wants to evaluate any fracture, dislocation or fluid around your right ankle joint. Other than exposure to mild radiation, a foot X-ray is safe.

Pregnant women should inform their doctor (and x-ray technician) as the radiation may affect the fetus. If needed, precautions can be taken to lower the radiation exposure to the fetus.
