Weil Felix (Rickettsial) Test

Weil Felix test helps diagnose rickettsial infections. It aims to identify anti-rickettsial antibodies in a patient's blood sample. A sufficiently detectable level of antibodies for a positive result may be produced only 5-10 days after disease onset. A repeated titer 7-14 days after the original may be used to confirm the diagnosis.

Rickettsial infections are a group of bacterial infections transmitted through fleas, mites, or lice and can cause diseases such as typhus, rickettsialpox, spotted fever, etc., in humans. Some of the symptoms of the infection include fever, a general feeling of discomfort, muscle pain, and swollen lymph nodes. In some cases, a rash or severe pneumonia may also develop.
