Understanding Ultrasound Level I NT/NB Scan (For 11-14 Weeks Pregnancies)
What is Ultrasound Level I NT/NB Scan (For 11-14 Weeks Pregnancies)?
Ultrasound Level I NT/NB Scan (For 11-14 Weeks Pregnancies) scan is an ultrasound done between the 11th and 14th weeks of pregnancy. This test measures the nuchal fold thickness which is an area of tissue at the back of an unborn baby's neck. Measuring this thickness helps to determine your fetus’s risk of having Down syndrome and chromosomal abnormalities. The chances of having chromosomal abnormality are determined by the nuchal translucency measurement, your age, and your baby's gestational age.
More fluid than normal in the back of the neck means greater nuchal fold thickness which indicates a higher risk for genetic abnormalities in the fetus. If the result of this test comes out to be abnormal, other tests like amniocentesis can be done as a confirmatory test.
