pulmoCORE Panel 2 (EGFR (RT PCR), ALK (FISH), ROS-1 (FISH)) is a set of tests that detects genetic changes (mutations) in two different genes namely epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) gene and ROS-1 (Repressor of Silencing 1) gene. This panel also identifies anaplastic lymphoma kinase (ALK) gene rearrangement on chromosome 2. Any mutations in EGFR and ROS-1 genes can lead to non-small cell lung carcinoma (NSCLC), the most common form of lung cancer. Gene rearrangements involving the ALK gene are present in approximately 2-7% of non-small cell carcinomas of the lung (primarily adenocarcinomas).
