An MRI (Magnetic resonance imaging) screening of SI joint visualises the joint located between the ileum and sacrum bones of the pelvis and surrounding tissues. It uses magnetic and radio waves to provide detailed and clear 3D images. The scan detects inflammation in the lower back, degeneration of knee joint cartilage, arthritis of spine and large joints, thickening of joint bones and inflammations in the lower spine. A symptom of SI joint pain is a stabbing pain from the hips to the lower back, and down to the thighs.
It is safe as it is a radiation-less test. The whole procedure takes about 40-60 minutes. Pregnant women should inform their doctor before an MRI.
