A Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) fistulogram with Contrast creates a picture of the sphincter muscles, anal canal, and surrounding soft tissues. The contrast helps in increasing the visibility of the internal organs and hence improves the sensitivity and diagnostic accuracy of the MRI scan.
This test is prescribed by the doctor to diagnose perianal fistulae (mass which develops between bowel end and anus skin). This test is also helpful in finding out Inflammatory bowel disease (Crohn’s disease) and obstetric fistula (a condition in which a hole develops in the birth canal after child delivery).
