MR Angiography Aortogram (MR)
The MR Angiography Aortogram (MR) is a noninvasive imaging test that uses magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to create detailed images of the aorta, the main artery that carries blood from the heart to the rest of the body. This test often involves the use of a contrast dye (usually gadolinium) to improve the visibility of blood vessels.
It is commonly done to detect and evaluate conditions such as aortic aneurysms, narrowing (stenosis), blockages, tears (dissection), or congenital abnormalities of the aorta. It helps doctors assess the size, shape, and flow of blood through the aorta and its major branches.
This test is safe, painless, and does not use radiation. You’ll be asked to lie still inside the MRI machine while images are taken. Inform your doctor if you have any metal implants, kidney issues, or if you are pregnant, as special precautions may be needed. The results help guide treatment decisions and surgical planning, if required.
