Interleukin-6

Interleukin-6 (IL-6) is a protein produced by the immune system when there is inflammation or infection. The IL-6 test measures how much of this protein is in the blood. Elevated IL-6 levels can indicate that the body may be responding to inflammation, infection, or certain underlying conditions. These may include autoimmune disorders and some types of cancer.
