IL-6 (Interleukin 6)

Interleukin-6 (IL-6) is an inflammatory marker produced by several cells, which is elevated due to acute inflammatory reactions such as injury, trauma, stress, or infection. The IL-6 (Interleukin 6) test helps to evaluate the severity of SIRS (Systemic Inflammatory Response Syndrome), COVID-19, sepsis and to predict the outcome of these patients. IL-6 is also useful as an early alarm marker for the detection of neonatal sepsis. It also helps to detect and monitor chronic inflammation such as rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, infections, etc. Moreover, it is also known to help in the evaluation of diabetes, stroke and cardiovascular disease. High levels of IL-6, it could indicate a risk of inflammatory storm and rapid pulmonary invasion.
