The HER2/neu FISH test is a test used to determine the HER2/neu gene amplification status in breast cancer. It employs fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) to detect and quantify the number of copies of the HER2/neu gene in cancer cells. The test helps identify patients who may benefit from HER2-targeted therapies, such as trastuzumab (Herceptin). By assessing HER2/neu gene amplification, the test aids in treatment decision-making and prognosis evaluation for breast cancer patients.
