EMG (Electromyography) - Four Limbs

The EMG (Electromyography) - Four Limbs measures electrical activity of muscles in response to a nerve stimulation provided to legs and arms. It is used for identifying any nerve damage in the limbs. During the test the nerves are stimulated with electrode attached to the skin. The resulting electrical activity is recorded and interpreted. This test is advised if a doctor suspects symptoms of muscular or neurological disorder such as numbness, tingling, burning sensations in various body parts.
It helps in diagnosis of various medical conditions such as muscular dystrophy, myasthenia gravis, radiculopathies, carpal tunnel syndrome and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.
Generally a nerve conduction velocity (NCV) test is also recommended along with EMV test to check the muscles function in response to nerve stimulus.
