CECT Scan Pelvis (Lower Abdomen) is an imaging technique to visualize the bones, organs, blood vessels and other tissues in the pelvic region. A contrast reagent is provided intravenously to create better images. Structures inside and near the pelvis include the bladder, prostate,reproductive organs, lymph nodes, large bowel, small bowel, and pelvic bones.
Females having abnormal vaginal bleeding, fibroids, pain in the lower belly, infertility and pelvic pain should undergo this test. This scan is also recommended to males having lumps or swelling in the testicles, undescended testicles, pelvic pain and urination problems . It helps in diagnosis of kidney stones, hernias, masses, tumors, infections, aneurysms and. narrowing of arteries supplying blood to kidneys.
The contrast agent is generally considered harmless, however occasional cases of reaction to it can be seen. Pregnant women and kidney patients are not recommended to undergo this investigation.
