CECT Scan Mastoid

A CECT Mastoid or Contrast-Enhanced Computed Tomography scan of the mastoid is a medical imaging technique that uses x-rays and contrast material to produce detailed cross-sectional images of the mastoid, a part of your skull located behind the ear. These images also help to access and evaluate the delicate structures of the ear and surrounding tissues.

Some people may develop mild allergic reactions to contrast materials. And exposure to radiation during the scan may also cause a few side effects such as skin burn and rashes. However, most of these side effects subside with treatment. An abnormal scan may indicate the presence of mastoiditis (bacterial infection affecting the mastoid), cholesteatoma (abnormal skin growth in the middle ear behind the eardrum), or a tumor in the mastoid bone region.
