CD34 Count

CD34 is a cell surface glycoprotein mainly expressed on hematopoietic stem and progenitor cells. It plays an essential role in the development of blood and immune cells. The CD34 Count test helps detect and quantify the CD34 antigen and is usually performed using flow cytometry on bone marrow or peripheral blood samples.

This test is clinically important in leukemia, where CD34 expression indicates an immature stage of leukemic cells. By analyzing the percentage and intensity of CD34 expression, doctors can assess the type, aggressiveness, and prognosis of the disease. The test is also used to monitor disease progression, evaluate treatment response, and determine eligibility for stem cell transplantation.
