CD3 Count

CD3 is a protein complex found on the surface of all mature T lymphocytes (T cells). It plays an essential role in transmitting signals inside the cell when T cells recognize and bind to harmful invaders such as viruses, bacteria, or abnormal cells. This signaling process activates T cells, enabling them to multiply and perform their immune defense functions.

The CD3 Count test measures the number and proportion of CD3-positive T cells in the blood. Since T cells are key to the immune system, this test shows how well the body can fight infections and stay healthy.

Doctors may recommend this test for individuals with suspected immune dysfunction, those on immunosuppressive therapy, patients recovering from transplants, or anyone with recurrent or unusual infections, as it provides a clear assessment of T cell activity. It also supports clinical decision-making in T-cell deficiencies. The test helps monitor treatment effectiveness over time and assess immune recovery following therapies. It also supports the management of T-cell leukemias and lymphomas when interpreted alongside clinical findings and other diagnostic results.

No special preparation is required for the CD3 Count test. However, provide a brief clinical history at the time of sample collection. Inform a doctor about all the medications (e.g., immunosuppressants, steroids, etc.), supplements, and underlying illnesses, as all these factors may affect the test results.
