Cancer Marker Profile - Breast

Breast cancer is one of the most common cancers worldwide, and tumor markers play an important role in monitoring the disease after diagnosis. Tumor markers are substances produced by cancer cells or released by the body in response to malignancy. While they are not used for screening or initial diagnosis on their own, they provide valuable information when interpreted alongside clinical findings and imaging studies.

The Cancer Marker Profile - Breast includes CA 15.3 and Carcino Embryonic Antigen (CEA). CA 15.3 is the most widely used tumor marker for breast cancer and is primarily employed to monitor disease progression, response to treatment, and recurrence after successful treatment. CEA is a non-specific tumor marker that may be elevated in some cases of breast cancer, particularly in advanced disease, and can provide additional supportive information when used in combination with CA 15.3.

This panel may be recommended for individuals with a known diagnosis of breast cancer to track treatment effectiveness or to detect disease recurrence after successful treatment. It may also be used in selected cases where symptoms such as unexplained weight loss, bone pain, or persistent fatigue raise concern for disease progression.
