Bile Pigment
Understanding Bile Pigment
What is Bile Pigment?
A Bile Pigment test is performed to confirm whether a person has any liver dysfunctions. The liver produces bile enzymes for digestion purposes and recycles them. The levels of bile pigments are majorly detected by a urine test or a blood test. The patient is asked to urinate in a sterile cup for the urine sample. Or a needle is pricked on the arm to draw a blood sample from the vein.
Under the normal physiological state, bile pigments do not pass through urine. Therefore, the presence of bile pigments, especially bilirubin in the urine or blood, confirms jaundice. Other liver-related problems include viral infections, cell mass, gallstones, and blood vessel constriction. Consult the doctor immediately for proper medical treatment in case of a positive test result.
