Spices like coriander, cloves, black pepper, basil, cardamom, chili pepper, and mustard are widely used in cooking for their flavor. Such reactions can range from mild symptoms like itching in the mouth, skin rashes, and a runny nose to severe conditions such as swelling of the throat, or difficulty breathing. In rare cases, these allergies can lead to anaphylaxis, which is a medical emergency and requires immediate attention.

The Allergy Panel - Spices helps to detect specific IgE antibodies produced by the immune system in response to proteins found in spices. This panel help support whether the body is mistakenly identifying these spices as harmful and triggering allergic reactions.

The Allergy Panel - Spices is recommended for individuals who experience symptoms such as hives/itching, abdominal pain, nausea, sneezing, throat irritation, or breathing difficulties after consuming foods containing these spices. It can also help differentiate between spice allergies and other conditions, such as food intolerances or cross-reactivity with pollen allergens (oral allergy syndrome).

Generally, no special preparation is required for the Allergy Panel - Spices. However, providing the clinical history before giving the sample is preferred.

A positive test result for specific IgE antibodies suggests sensitization to one or more spices included in the panel and may indicate a spice allergy when interpreted alongside clinical symptoms. Based on the overall evaluation, a doctor may advise avoiding the suspected spices to help reduce the risk of allergic reactions. A negative result means no significant IgE sensitization was detected; however, it does not completely rule out an allergy, and further evaluation or additional tests may be needed if symptoms persist.
