ALK (Ventana DF53) by IHC is an FDA-approved immunohistochemistry test for the qualitative detection of anaplastic lymphoma kinase (ALK) protein in FFPE (Formalin-Fixed Paraffin-Embedded) non-small cell lung carcinoma (NSCLC) tissue. NSCLC is the most common form of lung cancer and the ALK gene is responsible for cell growth and development in NSCLC. Any mutations (sudden genetic changes) in this gene can lead to NSCLC. This test helps in identifying patients who may benefit from treatment with medicines including Crizotininb, Ceritinib, and Alectinib. This test provides important information that can guide treatment decisions.
