ALK (IHC) + ROS (IHC) is a set of two tests that helps detect genetic changes (mutations) in ROS-1 (Repressor of Silencing 1) gene and also detects anaplastic lymphoma kinase (ALK) protein in FFPE (Formalin-Fixed Paraffin-Embedded) non-small cell lung carcinoma (NSCLC) tissue. Any mutations (sudden genetic changes) in these genes can lead to a type of lung cancer known as non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). While ROS-1 (IHC) is an effective screening tool for the detection of ROS-1 rearrangements. Due to structural similarity in ALK and ROS-1, the US FDA has approved Crizotinib for positive cases of ROS-1. This test helps in identifying patients who may benefit from treatment with medicines including Crizotininb, Ceritinib, and Alectinib. This test provides important information that can guide treatment decisions.
