The X - Ray L S (Lumbar Spine) AP & LAT Views test done to visualize the area of the lower back. This includes the lumbar vertebral bones (L1 to L5), intervertebral discs, and the surrounding soft tissues like muscles. The X-ray image is black and white. Dense structures such as the bones appear white, while softer tissues such as the skin and muscles appear darker.

This test is done to find the cause of lower back pain, look for an injury of the spinal bones, diagnose any suspected tumors, osteoarthritis, osteoporosis, or infections of the bone, and detect suspected disc problems.

An X-ray of the lumbar spine is relatively safe as uses a small amount of radiation. The radiation exposure time is usually less than a second. The overall test may take 20-30 minutes.
