Overview

Introduction

Tuspress Syrup is used in the treatment of dry cough. It provides relief by reducing the activity of cough center in the brain. It thins and loosens mucus in the nose and windpipe, making it easier to cough out.

Tuspress Syrup also narrows the small blood vessels providing relief from congestion or stuffiness in the nose. It may be taken with or without food at a fixed time each day. It is important to take this medicine in the dose and duration advised by your doctor. In case you miss a dose of this medicine, take it as soon as you remember. But, never double the dose to make up for the missed one. It is beneficial to have plenty of fluids while taking this medication. If you are suffering from any lung, liver or kidney disease, inform your doctor before you start taking this medicine.

Nausea, vomiting, stomach upset, headache, loss of appetite, insomnia rash and diarrhea may occur as side effects of this medicine. But, you should consult a doctor if your symptoms worsen or are accompanied by high fever or persistent headache. It may cause dizziness as a side effect, so do not drive or do anything that requires mental focus. Avoid alcohol while taking this medicine as it may worsen your side effects.

How to use Tuspress Syrup

Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Check the label for directions before use. Measure it with a measuring cup and take it by mouth. Shake well before use. Tuspress Syrup may be taken with or without food, but it is better to take it at a fixed time.

How Tuspress Syrup works

Tuspress Syrup is a combination of four medicines: Chlorpheniramine, dextromethorphan, menthol and phenylephrine which relieve dry cough. Chlorpheniramine is an antiallergic which relieves allergy symptoms like runny nose, watery eyes and sneezing. Dextromethorphan is a cough suppressant that relieves cough by reducing the activity of cough centre in the brain. Menthol is an organic compound which produces a sensation of coolness and relieves minor throat irritation. Phenylephrine is a decongestant which narrows the small blood vessels providing relief from congestion or stuffiness in the nose.

Pregnancy

Lactation
SAFE IF PRESCRIBED
Tuspress Syrup is probably safe to use during breastfeeding. Limited human data suggests that the drug does not represent any significant risk to the baby.
Driving
UNSAFE
Tuspress Syrup may cause side effects which could affect your ability to drive.
Kidney
SAFE IF PRESCRIBED
Tuspress Syrup is probably safe to use in patients with kidney disease. Limited data available suggests that dose adjustment of Tuspress Syrup may not be needed in these patients. Please consult your doctor.
Liver
UNSAFE
Tuspress Syrup is probably unsafe to use in patients with liver disease and should be avoided. Please consult your doctor.

My daughter is suffering from cough, cold and fever. Ambrolite -s 2ml TDS, Tuspress 1.5ml TDS, Calpol 250 3ml TDS and zifi 50 5ml OD are being given to her on doctor advise.
