Product introduction

Your doctor will tell you how often you need to use your Tiomate Transhaler. The effect of this medicine may be noticeable after a few days, but will only reach its maximum after a few weeks. This medicine must be used regularly to be effective, so go on taking it even if you don't have any symptoms.  If you stop taking it, your COPD may get worse. To get the benefit from this medicine, you need to make sure you get your inhaler technique right, otherwise, it does not work well.

The most common side effects of Tiomate Transhaler are nausea, diarrhea, dry mouth, vomiting, dizziness, nasopharyngitis (inflammation of the throat and nasal passages), and insomnia. If you experience any of these symptoms, don’t stop taking it, but do talk to your doctor. You can prevent some of these symptoms by rinsing your mouth and throat with water or brushing your teeth after using your inhaler. If you experience any other symptoms and you are worried about them, consult your doctor.

Before taking this medicine, you should tell your doctor if you are pregnant, planning pregnancy, or breastfeeding.

Benefits of Tiomate Transhaler

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)
COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease) is a group of lung diseases that cause breathing difficulties. COPD is caused by swelling of the airways that carry air in and out of the lungs. Tiomate Transhaler relaxes the muscles of these airways and widens it. This makes you breathe easy and gives relief from symptoms such as tightness in your chest, shortness of breath, wheezing and coughing. Avoid smoking and minimise your exposure to pollution, dust and fumes. Along with that, a little exercise each day can help you stay strong. Talk to your doctor about how much exercise is good for you.

Side effects of Tiomate Transhaler

Most side effects do not require any medical attention and disappear as your body adjusts to the medicine. Consult your doctor if they persist or if you’re worried about them
Common side effects of Tiomate
  • Nausea
  • Diarrhea
  • Dryness in mouth
  • Vomiting
  • Dizziness
  • Nasopharyngitis (inflammation of the throat and nasal passages)
  • Insomnia (difficulty in sleeping)

How to use Tiomate Transhaler

Check the label for directions before use. Shake the inhaler. While you are breathing in from mouth, press down on the inhaler one time to release the medication and hold your breath for 10 seconds. Repeat until you have inhaled the number of puffs as suggested by the doctor.Afterwards, rinse your mouth thoroughly with water and spit it out.

How Tiomate Transhaler works

Tiomate Transhaler is a combination of two medicines: Formoterol and Tiotropium. Formoterol is a bronchodilator while Tiotropium is an anticholinergic. They work by relaxing the muscles in the airways and widening them. Together, they make breathing easier.

Quick tips

  • If at any time your breathing gets worse, please contact your doctor or nurse for advice straightaway.
  • Do not smoke, as smoking causes irritation and damage to the lungs and will make your condition worse.
  • If you have diabetes, you may need to check your blood glucose more frequently, as Tiomate Transhaler can affect the levels of sugar in your blood. Your doctor will advise you about this.
  • Do not discontinue use without consulting your doctor, even if you feel better.
  • If you are overweight, it is advisable to lose weight. This is because being overweight means that you have to work much harder to breathe in to inflate your lungs.
