How Silocap D 8 mg/0.5 mg Tablet works

Silodosin is an alpha blocker. It works by relaxing muscle around the bladder exit and prostate gland so urine is passed more easily.

How Silocap D 8 mg/0.5 mg Tablet works

Dutasteride is a 5-alpha reductase inhibitors. It blocks an enzyme which is necessary to change testosterone to another hormone that causes the prostate to grow. As a result, it helps to shrink the prostate and relieve the symptoms like difficulty in passing urine.

Expert advice for Silodosin

  • Fully effective within 2 weeks in most men, but some men show improvement within hours or days of starting treatment.
  • Does not decrease the size of the prostate or prevent it from growing. Some men will eventually need surgery to relieve their symptoms.
  • No or mild side effects even on long-term use. Low strength (asthenia), sleepiness and a slight fall in blood pressure may occur.
  • Retrograde ejaculation may occur as a side effect but should disappear when treatment is stopped.
  • It may affect your eye muscles; this should be harmless unless you are scheduled for a cataract surgery.

  • It prevents the prostate from growing and may even shrink it.
  • Works well in patients with prostate greater than 40 millilitres in volume.
  • Symptoms improve after 3 to 6 months of treatment.
  • Risk of urinary retention (sudden inability to urinate) and need for surgery may become lesser.
  • Decreased sexual drive, erectile and ejaculatory problems may occur as side effects.
  • Pregnant women, women of childbearing age, or those planning to conceive must not take Dutasteride.
