Dutasteride blocks an enzyme which is necessary to change testosterone to another hormone that causes the prostate to grow. As a result, it helps to shrink the prostate and relieve the symptoms like difficulty in passing urine.

Expert advice for Silodosin

  • Silodosin helps in relieving only the symptoms of enlarged prostate. It doesn't decrease the size of the prostate.
  • It may take 2 to 4 weeks before you experience complete relief in your symptoms. Tell your doctor if there is no improvement after 4 weeks.
  • Don't stop taking Silodosin suddenly. Talk to your doctor first.
  • Avoid standing up suddenly from sitting or lying position as you may feel dizzy, lightheaded, and fainting may occur. Silodosin is best taken at bedtime to avoid these problems.
  • Silodosin can make you feel dizzy for the first few days. Take special precaution if you have to drive, use machines or do any activity that needs alertness.
  • Inform your doctor that you are taking this medicine before undergoing any surgery like cataract surgery.
  • Inform your doctor if you have an underlying kidney or liver disease.
  • Silodosin is not meant to be used by women

Do not start or continue furosemide and consult your doctor:
  • If you have liver disease.
  • If you have to undergo prostate specific antigen assay.
  • If you notice breast enlargement and tenderness.
  • If a woman comes in contact with leaking dutasteride capsules she should Wash  the affected area immediately with soap and water.
Use a condom during sexual intercourse. Do not donate blood while taking dutasteride and for at least 6 months after your treatment ends. Dutasteride can be carried in the blood and could cause birth defects, if a pregnant women receives a transfusion with blood that contains dutasteride. Consult your doctor if you notice an unusual rash, swelling in your mouth, tightness in your chest, or trouble breathing.
