Product introduction

Salcin 12% Ointment works by helping the outer layer of the skin shed more easily. This softens thickened skin, loosens scales, and allows healthier skin to form underneath, improving the appearance and comfort of affected areas.

Apply Salcin 12% Ointment only to the affected skin, usually after washing and gently hydrating the area. Use it in the dose and duration prescribed by the doctor. Applying more than needed will not speed up results. Avoid covering the treated area tightly unless specifically advised, as this can increase absorption.

There is limited data on the common side effects of this medicine. You may experience erythema (redness) and scaling if applied to open skin lesions. If severe redness, burning, or discomfort develops, stop the treatment and consult your doctor for advice.

Salcin 12% Ointment is for external use only and should not be applied to the eyes, mouth, or other mucous membranes. It should not be used on broken or infected skin unless advised by a doctor. Do not use for long-term, especially in children or people with kidney or liver problems, as that may lead to unwanted absorption and side effects. Pregnant and breastfeeding women should consult their doctors before using this medicine.

Benefits of Salcin Ointment

Treatment of Skin disorders
Salcin 12% Ointment helps manage skin disorders associated with thickened, rough, and scaly skin by softening and loosening excess keratin on the skin surface. It is commonly used in conditions such as psoriasis, ichthyosis, keratosis pilaris, palm and sole keratosis, pityriasis rubra pilaris, and certain hyperkeratotic warts and lesions. It reduces the scaling and thickening and improves skin texture, relieves discomfort and tightness. When used regularly, it can make affected skin smoother and more comfortable, helping users feel less restricted in daily activities.

Side effects of Salcin Ointment

How to use Salcin Ointment

This medicine is for external use only. Use it in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Check the label for directions before use. Clean and dry the affected area and gently massage the ointment.

How Salcin Ointment works

Salcin 12% Ointment works as a keratolytic agent (a substance that promotes the shedding of the skin's outermost layer) that helps loosen and remove the outer, thickened layer of the skin. It breaks down the material that holds dead skin cells together, allowing scales to shed more easily. This softens rough, thickened skin and helps restore a healthier skin surface in hyperkeratotic skin disorders.

Quick tips

  • Apply Salcin 12% Ointment only to the affected areas of thickened or scaly skin, and avoid spreading it onto normal skin to reduce irritation.
  • Wash and gently hydrate the skin before application, as slightly moist skin helps the medicine work better.
  • Use only the amount needed to cover the affected area; applying more will not speed up results and may increase side effects.
  • Avoid covering the treated area with tight bandages or occlusive dressings unless your doctor specifically advises it, as this can increase absorption.
  • Wash your hands after applying the product, unless your hands are the area being treated.
  • If excessive dryness, redness, or peeling occurs, reduce the frequency of application or use a bland moisturiser to soothe the skin.

Frequently asked questions

Salcin 12% Ointment is used for skin conditions where the skin becomes thick, hard, or scaly. These include psoriasis, ichthyosis, keratosis pilaris, thickened skin on the palms and soles, pityriasis rubra pilaris, and certain hyperkeratotic warts and lesions.
It should be used only on the affected areas and not over large body surfaces unless advised by a doctor. Using it over large areas for a long time may increase absorption and raise the risk of side effects, especially in children and people with kidney or liver problems.
Covering the treated area with tight bandages or occlusive dressings can increase how much the medicine is absorbed through the skin. This may raise the risk of irritation or unwanted side effects and should be avoided unless specifically recommended by a doctor.
Caution is needed when using other medicines that contain salicylates or products that strongly exfoliate the skin. Using multiple such products together can increase irritation or systemic exposure. Always inform your doctor about other topical treatments you are using.
Mild peeling is expected, but if you develop severe redness, burning, or excessive scaling, stop using the medicine and consult your doctor. Reducing the frequency of application or using a bland moisturiser may help in mild cases.
Salcin 12% Ointment should not be used by children under 2 years of age or by people who are allergic to salicylic acid. Extra caution is needed during pregnancy and breastfeeding, and it should be used only if clearly advised by a doctor.
