Product introduction

Ritehist-Total Tablet is taken with or without food in a dose and duration as advised by the doctor. The dose you are given will depend on your condition and how you respond to the medicine. You should keep taking this medicine for as long as your doctor recommends. If you stop treatment too early your symptoms may come back and your condition may worsen. Let your doctor know about all other medications you are taking as some may affect, or be affected by this medicine.

The most common side effects are nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, bloating, indigestion, headache, rash and loss of appetite. Most of these are temporary and usually resolve with time. Contact your doctor straight away if you are at all concerned about any of these side effects. It can also cause dizziness and sleepiness, so do not drive or do anything that requires mental focus until you know how this medicine affects you. Avoid drinking alcohol while taking this medicine as it can make dizziness worse.

Before taking it, you should tell your doctor if you have any liver diseases so that your doctor can prescribe a suitable dose for you. Also tell your doctor if you are pregnant, planning pregnancy or breastfeeding.

How Ritehist-Total Tablet works

Ritehist-Total Tablet is a combination of five medicines: Bromhexine, Chlorpheniramine Maleate, Guaifenesin, Phenylephrine and Paracetamol. Bromhexine and Guaifenesin help in the removal of mucus (phlegm) from the airways. Chlorpheniramine Maleate is an antiallergic which relieves allergy symptoms like runny nose, watery eyes and sneezing. Phenylephrine is a decongestant which narrows the small blood vessels providing relief from congestion or stuffiness in the nose. Paracetamol is an antipyretic (fever reducer) which blocks the release of certain chemical messengers to reduce fever associated with cold.

  • Ritehist-Total Tablet is prescribed to get relief from symptoms of common cold.
  • Take exactly as directed by your doctor or on the label. Do not increase the dosage or take for longer than is recommended.
  • Call your doctor if your symptoms have not improved within seven days of treatment.
  • Inform your doctor if you are taking any other medications for cold.
  • Along with taking Ritehist-Total Tablet do the following simple tips at home to get relief:
    1. Steam inhalation 
    2. Gargling with warm saltwater.
    3. Apply vapor rubs on chest, back if needed. Take enough rest.
    4. Take warm food and fluid only. Ensure adequate fluid intake.
    5. Advise hygiene measures to reduce spread: frequent hand-washing, avoiding sharing towels, pillowcase, etc.

Avoid driving, operating machinery, working at heights or participating in potentially dangerous activities until you know how the medicine affects you. Inform your doctor if you experience such an episode while taking this medicine.
Serious side effects with Ritehist-Total Tablet are uncommon and rare. Tell your doctor as soon as possible if you notice allergic reactions, skin rash or peeling, mouth ulcers, breathing problems, unexplained bleeding, recurrent fevers or infections, vision disturbances, fast or irregular heartbeat.
No, taking a higher than the recommended dose may not be more effective, rather it may increase the chances of having serious side effects. If the recommended dosage does not relieve your symptoms or if you experience increased severity of your symptoms, please consult your doctor for re-evaluation.
Yes, use of Ritehist-Total Tablet should be avoided if you have high blood pressure (hypertension), any underlying serious heart condition or cardiovascular disorder, any history of stomach ulcers or overactive thyroid (hyperthyroidism). However, it can be taken if advised by the doctor. The use of this medicine should also be avoided if you are taking antidepressant drugs. These drugs, called monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs), may include phenelzine and isocarboxazid or tricyclic antidepressants like imipramine and amitriptyline. This medicine is preferably avoided in pregnant women especially in the first 3 months of pregnancy. Inform your doctor if you are planning to become pregnant.
No, it is not advisable to breastfeed while using Ritehist-Total Tablet. This medicine contains chlorpheniramine, an antihistamine, which can pass into the breast milk and may harm the baby. Inform your doctor that you are breastfeeding if you are advised to take this medicine.
Keep this medicine in the packet or the container it came in, tightly closed. Store it according to the instructions mentioned on the pack or label. Dispose of the unused medicine. Make sure it is not consumed by pets, children and other people.
