Pregyne Kit should be taken with food or as advised by your doctor. Treatment usually starts with a single dose of mifespristone, which should be swallowed whole with a glass of water. If you vomit within 30 minutes of taking the medicine, inform your doctor, as another dose may be required. The medicine may take 24–48 hours to start working, and you may notice spotting or bleeding during this time. After 36–48 hours, you need to take misoprostol, as directed by your doctor. You are advised to rest after taking this dose because it may cause abdominal cramps and vaginal bleeding, which indicate that the abortion process has started.
The most common side effects of this medicine include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and stomach cramps. If these bother you or appear serious, let your doctor know. There may be ways of reducing or preventing them. Some side effects may mean you should inform your doctor immediately, including heavy vaginal bleeding or abdominal pain.
Before taking this medicine, tell your doctor if you have ever had an ectopic pregnancy, are breastfeeding, or are using an intrauterine device. Your doctor should also know about all other medicines you are taking, as some medicines may make this medicine less effective or change the way it works. Avoid strenuous activities such as heavy exercise or running during the abortion process, as they may increase bleeding. Your doctor may perform an ultrasound or pelvic examination to confirm that the abortion is complete.
