Pencolin C Liquid is a combination of two medicines: Chlorpheniramine and Codeine which relieve dry cough. Chlorpheniramine is an antiallergic. It blocks the action of a chemical messenger (histamine) which may trigger cough due to allergy. Codeine is a cough suppressant. It suppresses cough by reducing the activity of cough centre in the brain.
Pencolin C Liquid may be unsafe to use during pregnancy. Animal studies have shown adverse effects on the foetus, however, there are limited human studies. The benefits from use in pregnant women may be acceptable despite the risk. Please consult your doctor.
Pencolin C Liquid is probably safe to use during lactation.
Limited human data suggests that the drug does not represent a significant risk to the baby. Larger doses or prolonged use of Pencolin C Liquid may cause sleepiness and other effects in the baby
Do not drive unless you are feeling well. As Pencolin C Liquid may cause dizziness, blurred vision or the inability to think clearly.
Pencolin C Liquid is probably safe to use in patients with kidney disease. Limited data available suggests that dose adjustment of Pencolin C Liquid may not be needed in these patients. Please consult your doctor. Use of Pencolin C Liquid may cause excessive sleepiness in patients with end stage kidney disease.
